2008 Election information

In addition to the Presidential election on November 4th, the Town of Bar Harbor will hold a special town meeting for 14 articles.

The articles include the establishment of a Charter Commission, following the article to elect six Charter Commissioners.

There are eleven Land Use Ordinance amendments.

The final article, Article 14, is the vote on the School Reorganization Plan.    View the School Reorganization Plan (Mount Desert Island Regional School System) and the  MDI Regional SS Interlocal Agreement.

Town Council will hold a public hearing before Election Day on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers for review and discussion only on each article. Click HERE for more info.

Absentee ballots shall be available the first week of October. You may call for a ballot to be mailed to you, or you may vote in person in the Municipal Building through October 31st.

Annual Town Meeting

The annual Town Meeting will be held June 2, 2009  at 7:00 p.m.

Open town meeting includes the budget for fiscal year 2010.

The election of municipal officers and ballot articles will be voted on June 9th at the polls from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Municipal Building Auditorium.

Note: The new State of Maine School Consolidation mandates that the school budget voted on June 2nd be validated by a secret ballot vote on June 9th. If you do not attend the June 2nd meeting, you will not know the final appropriation. The voting booths and the polling area will have a declaration from the School Committee and Superintendent of Schools stating the amount adopted. As soon as a copy is made available, it will also be posted to this website.

School validation absentee ballots cannot be returned prior to the June 2nd vote. Ballots received before the school budget is adopted at Town Meeting must be rejected.

ELECTION WORKERS NEEDED

Interested voters may participate in the election process by working a brief time at the polls or part-time days before an election.
Return a completed Election Clerk application to the Town Clerk's office.
